One of the things that excites me most about the Ipswich Catholic Community is its potential. There is so much we could do to help people encounter Jesus Christ, strengthen our families, support our young people, and build a thriving and missionary parish. But to realise this potential, we need to understand something important: the parish is not simply something we attend;
it is something we belong to.
It can be easy to think that building up our parish is the responsibility of the priests. After all, we are the ones employed by the Church! But the reality is that there is only so much a few priests can do. A parish flourishes when its people recognise that they, too, have a responsibility for its life and mission. Being a disciple is not simply about coming to Mass on Sunday; it is about asking how God might use our unique gifts to build up his Church.
Let me give you a practical example. I think it would be wonderful to have a child-friendly play space at the back of St Mary's for babies and toddlers. Something simple, safe and welcoming could make it easier for young families to participate in Mass while caring for their little ones. However, as someone who doesn't have children, I wouldn't even know where to begin! What would families actually find helpful? What would we need to make it work? These are precisely the sorts of ideas where the priests need your help.
Perhaps you have an idea for our young people, a way to welcome newcomers, a ministry to support struggling families, or something completely different that could help our parish become more missionary. Please speak to us! We want to hear your ideas, work alongside you and help turn good intentions into reality. You don't need to have everything figured out before approaching us.
Ultimately, your parish priests will come and go, but you remain. Our responsibility as priests is to nourish you through the sacraments, preach the Gospel, form disciples and help equip you for the mission Christ has entrusted to his Church. We want to leave this parish stronger, more vibrant and more deeply rooted in Jesus Christ than when we arrived.
This is your parish. You are not merely here to fill the pews; you are here to help build the Kingdom of God. Let's work together to make the Ipswich Catholic Community a place where people encounter Jesus, discover their gifts and find a home in his Church.

Introducing our new Youth Leader’s Team
Hi everyone! My name is Amelie and I grew up going to the Sacred Heart Parish and graduated from St Peter Claver College in 2023. This year I have been on mission with NET Ministries Australia & NZ, on their Darwin and Brisbane teams. We did so many cool things like running retreat days in schools, youth group sessions, going on school camps, visiting remote communities like Wadeye and the Tiwi Islands, volunteering at 3 Ignite Conferences and most recently helping the Campus Ministry team at ACU.
I am also currently studying the Creative Industries at QUT, and I love all things creative like music, design, art and fashion. I cannot wait to be a leader at our new Youth Group and help to create a space of belonging for the young people here in Ipswich. See you guys on Fridays!

Hello! My name is Paige and I graduated from St Peter Claver College in 2023.
I grew up in North Brisbane, but moved to Ipswich in 2018. I attended a Youth Group in South Brisbane for the majority of my high school years. This Youth Group was a huge part of my life and the highlight of my week every Friday.
I'm currently working full-time for a small cleaning business, but I have a passion for art and creativity, I also love flowers. I'll be pursuing floristry next year.
I can't wait to be a part of our new Youth Group as a leader and witnessing young people find God each in their own unique ways. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you wonderful young people this Friday!

St Edmunds College. I’m currently not studying, but am working on getting a Plumbing apprenticeship. When I was in school my favourite sport was cricket,
I played all through out school. I looked forwarded to training each week and playing for my local team Brothers on the weekend. I worked at KFC when I was invited to a Christian Youth Group in high school. I initially went there to make new friends, but I began learning about God. I recently received my sacrament's and am only just beginning my faith journey. This has inspired me to teach young people about faith. I hope to inspire young people, hope to see you all on Friday!

ATRIUM NEWS
Atrium has begun for the term, and it has been a joy to welcome the children back to their sessions.
This term, we will celebrate Advent and Christmas a little earlier, giving the children time to enter into the beautiful Scripture stories that tell of the birth of Jesus.
We are also very grateful to the Parish for their generous contribution towards creating a new garden at the Leichhardt Atrium. The children were delighted to water the plants and wander through the garden this week. We have also rearranged the environment to better welcome the growing number of young babies attending the Atrium 0-3 session. They now have their own space, where they can happily crawl and explore on a beautiful large mat.
The older group also spent time in Scripture study, learning about the geography of Israel and exploring some of the many places Jesus visited during his time on earth. Pastoral care in hospitals
Centacare is seeking people interested in volunteering once each week to provide pastoral and spiritual care to Catholic patients in our public hospitals in our strongly established teams. The people we are seeking must have a qualification or significant background in a human service discipline with some level of formal theological training. If you are retired, or semi-retired from such a career, in very good health and have one morning per week available for a most rewarding volunteer role in the spirit of the Gospel, please talk further with me withno obligation.

St Joseph's Conference Quarterly report
During the last quarter our Conference assisted 249 individuals.This included $4,485 in direct financial assistance by way of food vouchers. We also gave Vinnies vouchers for use in the Vinnies stores to the value of $800.
$2,730 worth of grocery items was provided, being from food donated by parishioners and the St Joseph's Primary School.
With Christmas approaching, we would be most grateful of donations for our hampers. Mince tarts, shortbread, plum puddings, longlife custard, tinned fruits, lollies, bonbons, tinned hams and any other Christmas type treats would all help to bring cheer to our companions who are struggling. We are always most appreciative of all the assistance that we receive.

St Mary's Conference Quarterly report
As mentioned in our last report, we had a very encouraging response to our callout for additional members, with 6 new members signing up to help out at the Support Centre. They bring with them a wealth of experience, talent and enthusiasm which no doubt will revitalise and benefit our conference enormously. But they will also bring a lot of love and compassion to those we serve, our companions. We will be conducting a small Commissioning Ceremony for our new members during the 9am Mass at St Mary's on the 1st November to welcome them formally into the Society and for them to commit to the Society's mission.
During the quarter the St Mary’s Conference assisted 367 families in the Ipswich and Rosewood area. We provided $35,839 in direct financial assistance such as food and petrol vouchers, and some help with other bills. We also provided $6,485 in clothing through the Vinnies store, as well as $8,250 in other In-Kind donations, including the food donated here at the parish churches each Sunday. We continued to assist the homeless with the funds raised from our Songs for Shelter Homeless Initiative fundraiser at Brothers in April. We have been able to assist 97 companions with food, swags, tents, fuel, toiletry packs and sleeping bags and blankets.
